Blogger, Ugh!

This blog is hosted on the Blogger platform. Blogger has been okay as far as a tool to work with but I'm getting ready to jump ship to Wordpress. There are two reasons:
  1. Try to comment on a Blogger blog using any sort of iDevice (esp. the iPad) or some of the Android tablets and you'll find that it's buggy as hell. I'm sure I lose comments on this blog due to that crap.
  2. The new Blogger Captcha is unreadable to humans. The whole point of the Captcha is to be readable by humans!
I'm turning off the Captcha for now. Hopefully the spam will stay at bay.

Anyone have experience or similar problems with Wordpress?

  1. I've definitely aborted comments on your blog when viewing on my iPad. I was considering jumping to Wordpress as well. Let me now how it works out for you.

    1. I'm going to install my own hosted version to play with it and see how difficult it is. I already use Wordpress for the CVTU site so I'm familiar with using it. However, putting up one's own hosted version is not as idiot proof as Blogger. I'll let you know.

  2. Since it's a Google entity, my gravatar doesn't show up unless I comment with my Google account. I thought the Captcha issue was just me. If I cycle through the captchas 10 times and still can't read it, I delete the comment and leave. That's been happening with everyone on Blogger.

I have a self-hosted Wordpress site, no worries. Those that I visit that use Wordpress.com, I don't have problems with their sites.

I'm at the point where I'm ready to delete and drop anything Google driven. Sorry bloggers.

    1. I can't for the life of me figure out why they switched Captchas. I never got comment spam using the old one. The new one is just idiotic.

  3. I am very glad you bring this up, for I am a recently appointed Prince of Nigeria, and would very much like to give you large sums of money. I only ask that you send me your checking account number, PIN, and routing number, so that I might send you that immediately.

    1. I said I never got comment spam. Unwanted visitors is a whole 'nother story. ;-)

  4. Most of the bloggers I know that went to Wordpress have come back to Blogger. As far as the new Captchas, I shut mine off too.

    1. Do you know if they went to wordpress.com (where Wordpress hosts their blog) or if they hosted their own?

  5. I tried to get rid of captcha before they made the "upgrade." I couldn't find where to turn it off...any help there would be appreciated because I completely agree about the new captcha. It's a pain in the butt to guess correctly.

    1. Yeah, it's not easy to do. First you have to switch back to the Old Blogger Interface. You do that by clicking on the gear shaped icon on the upper right of your dashboard. Once there, go into Settings, Comments and scroll down to the word verification on/off switch.

  6. Not a fan of the new Captchas, can't stand them and even hard to read when on my PC. On the droid, forget about it. I've been thinking about moving to wordpress as well, but I'm not convinced yet. I help another blogger with his blog in wordpress and it has it's quirks and problems as well.

Maybe it's time to flood blogger to get them to remove the capthcas and go back to the old. Never had a problem with it. Keep us informed Steve.

  7. Spam is good for numbers. More numbers, bigger market. Bigger market, sell more shit.

    1. I have no problem with spam, just with the CAPTCHAS.... and with the whole iDevice integration.

    I agree.

I'm a relatively prolific blog commentor. I'm now on the verge of no longer bothering to leave comments on blogs because I'm rapidly growing frustrated with having to play the "game" two or three times whenever I try and post a comment of guessing if I've read the blurred and congested text correctly.
